More Battles Looming Over Affirmative Action
Voters in Arizona, Colorado, and Nebraska could decide this November whether to ban race-conscious hiring and admissions policies such as affirmative action at public institutions, including many medical schools. (Aug. 12, 2008)

AAMC Commends Congress for Overriding Medicare Veto
The AAMC has commended Congress for voting to override President Bush's veto of legislation that averts major reductions in Medicare physician payments. (July 17, 2008)

AAMC Expands Criminal Background Check Testing
The AAMC recently expanded the testing phase of its criminal background check system for medical school applicants, with the goal of making the system available to all medical schools in time to screen the 2010 entering class. An extra year of testing will provide more complete insight into how the medical school application and background check systems will operate together. (July 11, 2008)

AAMC Calls for Strict Limits on Industry Support of Medical Education
A new AAMC report urges medical schools and teaching hospitals to adopt policies that prohibit drug industry gifts and services to physicians, faculty, residents, and students, and to curtail the involvement of industry in continuing medical education activities. (June 19, 2008)
